kentucky derby
I am going to the Kentucky Derby for the first time!! What am I most excited about? The hats. One of the only times that you will be out of place if you are not wearing a hat. My first move after finding out I was going was to begin my search for the hat. I started looking through all my favorite online shops. I finally found my derby hat on Shopbop. Rag and bone comes to my rescue! I am digging the mixture of lavender, lime, and straw with the leather band.

johnny depp + the hat
Was he born wearing a hat? Every hat looks like it belongs on his head. His hats look to all be vintage. They are all very masculine hats typically with a wider brim and in neutral colors. I think that more guys should take style inspiration from Johnny Depp. His look is so effortless, grunge, and he shows his respect towards accessories. Johnny shows the world how easy it is to throw on a hat, and it completes the outfit. So guy buy a hat that makes you feel confident and comfortable as if you were born to be unified with this hat.
wide brim hat + scarf
my hat has holes in it, and I still look awesome.
hat + colored lens sunglasses + graphic print scarf
hat + vintage glasses + 3 handkerchiefs (because one is not enough)

can we be best friends?
helen bonham carter. I want to be your best friend, and so does everyone else in the world. She is by far one of my favorite actresses, and she takes her style cues from no one but herself. I admire her self expression in her clothing choices. She is fearless and never shies away from an opportunity to wear a top hat.

Fridays have become dangerous days for me. I don't have classes on Friday, and I enter into this sort of euphoria just because of the fact that it is the weekend. hats must run in the family
The Olsen sisters, primarily Mary Kate and Ashley, have been paving their way in the fashion world. Their bohemian-homeless-eclectic-vintage style has been turning a lot of heads and inspiring a lot of women. The most refreshing part is that they do not play by societies rules. Grazie mille Olsens. Their youngest sister Elizabeth has also taken up a few style points from her sisters. Besides the fact that they all look freakily similar, they also all enjoy wearing hats. They don't just wear the hat. They make it look like the hat belongs on their head. Here are some pictures of the Olsens becoming one with the hat.

hats are the bees knees.
Here is an interview by Dazed Digital with Sarah Burton on Alexander McQueen's Spring/Summer 2013 at Paris Fashion Week. It is an interesting representation of the connection between femininity and the female form involving nature.
Dazed Digital: What was the starting point?
Sarah Burton: Everything was exploding last season so I really wanted to really bring it back to what the silhouettes of the house were, by embracing femininity and all female forms and looking at the hips, the waist and the bust. Then we began to peel it away as I wanted it to feel erotic but not overtly sexual.
DD: How did you connect bees with the sexual undertones of the collection?
Sarah Burton: It was about nature and femininity. There's always a sense of nature in what we do like referencing pollination in bees. It was meant to be quite celebratory.
DD: Tell us a little about the historical shapes – the panniers, the corsets and the bustles?
Sarah Burton: It's not meant to be historical. It's all the underpinnings of different periods. We did look at Alberto Vargas but we also looked at everything used to accentuate the female form.
DD: The moulded corsets were quite brilliant…
Sarah Burton: Yes, we wanted to use corsets but we didn't want them to be heavy, because when you think corsetry, you always feel it might be restrictive. I wanted them to feel light. They're all moulded tortoiseshell, moulded onto the body with jewelled bees in them.
DD: So it's a celebration of the female form and ultimately women?
Sarah Burton: Yes, us lot!
